“It’s clear that Coulson is writing what she knows, and a passionate, lively imagination pervades her prose, along with wit, exquisite detail, and poetic brevity.”

THE LOS ANGELES REVIEW OF BOOKS

“Coulson’s erudition is worn lightly, and any worry that the Met’s self-importance has rubbed off on her is quickly banished by the author’s sly wit.”

THE NEW CRITERION

Christine Coulson spent 25 years writing for The Metropolitan Museum of Art and left the museum as Senior Writer in 2019.

She started at The Met in 1991 as a summer intern in the European Paintings Department and returned in 1994 to start her first job at the museum after graduate school. During her tenure, she rose through the ranks of the museum, working in the Development Office, the Director’s Office, and the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.

In 2017, The Met gave Coulson a yearlong sabbatical to write Metropolitan Stories, her bestselling 2019 novel about the Museum, after she published this personal essay in The New York Times. She left The Met to write her acclaimed second novel, One Woman Show, which was released in the US and UK in October 2023. She is currently working on a new work of fiction.
